Four Weeks Later...

At four weeks...this is where we are at:
David LOVES his baby sister!
He just can't get enough of her!

You can totally tell in all these photos that he just adores her. He is still a little nervous when she cries. He never hesitates to holler " mom, baby sister crying! Get 'er!" He has become such a great help and a good big brother. We have come a long way in 4 weeks!

Thanksgiving 2009

Finally, I get to blog about Thanksgiving! We were blessed to have my parents, my brother Adam and his wife Brandi, and my sister Deanna here for Thanksgiving. We had lots of fun, just as the pictures illustrate!
Adam and Brandi let David into their room on their bed to "help" get Adalynn ready for bed. He is always such a big help!
We tried to get David to give Hannah a kiss. Instead he leaned over to Hannah and said, "Hannah kiss me!" as he pasted his face to her mouth! It was so cute!
Brandi, Adalynn, and Adam at the Thanksgiving dinner table!

Hannah even joined us for Thanksgiving!
David want a helmet so bad! He tried on Uncle Matt's new helmet and decided that is exactly the one he wanted!
And he tried on Aunt Deanna's helmet...maybe that would be the one he wants!
Reading books with Grandpa...priceless! David and Adalynn were totally happy to read book after book with grandpa.
Then David tried on daddy's helmet, along with the works. He thinks he is such a big kid!

David loves his uncle Matt. He climbed all over him the entire time he was here. Poor Matt couldn't hardly get in a nap!

Our lame attempt again at getting a picture of the four of us at the Thanksgiving dinner table.

Hannah was sleeping at the time we took this photo. Too bad, because we actually got David to look at the camera for us!
Adam cut the Turkey for us! He did a fine job!

Matt kept David company while the rest of us prepared dinner. They watched Merry Madagascar a few times I think! Maybe a few times too many. David is addicted to that movie/show now!

Sometimes getting David to eat dinner is difficult. This time it took both Grandpa and Grandma to even get him to have a couple bites. We believed it had something to do with grandpa holding Hannah. David just had to right there too. He may have been a bit jealous too.

Hannah Cuddles!

We have the greatest family in the world! Hannah is learning this REAL quick! I figured it's time we post pictures as our family members have come to "cuddle" with Hannah! If you have come to visit Hannah and you are not featured on our blog...it's probably because I just didn't get your picture!
Grandma Lela cuddles with Hannah the first night home from the hospital.
Grandpa Ben cuddles with Hannah the first night home from the hospital.

Aunt Sheryl cuddles Hannah for the first time!

Grandma Blankets!

My mom made Hannah a few blankets that I just HAD to post because they are SO DANG CUTE! My mom is such a GREAT GRANDMA!
Every little girl needs a disney blanket. Hannah will love the Minnie and Tinker Bell blanket someday! I know it! One side is fleece. The other side is regular fabric.

This is a patch work quilt she made. So SOFT and SO BEAUTIFUL!
And because Andrew is a huge Nascar fan...
His daughter must also have a nascar blanket. To top it off...PINK CAMO on one side! Thanks Mom for such BEAUTIFUL blankets. You have a great talent. So glad you share your talents for all of us to enjoy!

Progress!

We are making progress! I have been sure to document the progress David is making every day. He is loving his baby sister more and more every day.
Day 3 With a Sister...
David wanted to turn on the music in the bouncer for baby sister. He helped daddy "fix it" (put batteries in it).

He was actually OK to lay by her on the floor. "Good Night Baby Sister!"

Day 4
David thought if she was in the swing, he had to be right there to control the action! Such a good brother.
Family bath time was sure fun! Mommy washed Hannah while Daddy oversaw David's "water dumping." He dumped water on her belly to keep her warm. Only a few times did he splash her in the face. She wasn't quite sure about that!

After Hannah's first bath at home, David helped get her ready for the day!
Day 5Cuddle time with mommy is NO big deal! We all read books together before bed! YIPEE!
And he'll even smile for a picture with Hannah! So we took the opportunity to take another family picture. This time we actually got a decent photo of the four of us! (See the photo at the top of page!)

Hannah Rose Hansen 11/4/09

SHE'S HERE! Today is Hannah's actual due date and we are home with her - happy and all is well! Hannah decided to come 3 days early! I had my final weekly appointment at the OBGYN on Tuesday. The doctor that examined me was "rough" to say the least. I KNOW he put me into labor! haha! Probably not on purpose, but I began having contractions every hour after we left the doctors office. I was 90% effaced at that time and dilated to a 2. Around 5 pm, I was having contractions every 20-30 minutes. I began cramming in last minute projects just in case the contractions didn't stop and we had to go to the hospital. Around 9pm, I was having contractions every 15 minutes or so. We put David to bed as usual and continued working on all our "projects". The contractions sped up through the night. When we went to bed at 2am, I was having a contraction every 5 minutes. If that kept up for more than an hour, we were headed for the hospital. I actually fell asleep a couple times, missed a couple contractions, and didn't know where they were or how far apart they were when I woke up with an extremely painful contraction at 4am. I showered and sat on the couch on count contractions. I was able to let Andrew sleep until 5:15, when I decided I couldn't just breathe through them anymore. We called Andrew's brother to come sleep on our couch and headed for the hospital at 6am.
I was dilated to a 4 when they admitted me. The doctor broke my water and shortly after they came in to give me me epidural!!! Then I went to sleep! Labor was fairly easy. I did throw up twice: once because a contraction was so painful when we first arrived at the hospital and again when my blood pressure dropped too low. I was dilated to a 9 around 3pm and began pushing shortly after. We pushed for nearly 2 hours until Hannah was born at 5:09pm. She weighed 7lbs 6 ozs and was 20 1/2 inches long. She has a head full of black hair, dark eyes, and really dark skin! She was perfect in our eyes in every way possible!
Sadly, the hospital wouldn't allow anyone under the age 18 to visit the hospital because of the swine flu threat these days. Therefore, our little DAVID couldn't meet his baby sister right away, nor could he see mom and dad for two days. We were so sad, but grateful for the time we were able to bond with baby Hannah before bringing her home.
Hannah is a really happy baby. She has no problems with just laying and looking around.

Giving birth to Hannah has been a completely DIFFERENT experience than having a c-section with David. I cannot even begin to compare the two. This was so fun to actually be able to go through labor and delivery and to be able to say "I DID IT!" This time, I felt so great going home...last time, I was puking my guts out because I went home with kidney stones. YUCK!

David wasn't quite sure about taking Hannah home. He really didn't want to. I captured his face and a tear or two just for the memory because I know he is going to GROW to LOVE her. He just doesn't know yet.
By the time we pulled into our drive way, David decided he wanted to "touch her". Oh! but don't think for one second that he was happy to have her home! This is going to be a major adjustment. It's going to take some time!
Welcome home Hannah!
David wanted to SHARE his cheese and peanut butter crackers with Hannah! One step in the right direction.
This is a great picture for the record. We will all laugh with David someday when he sees this first family picture as a family of four! He was saying " Grama, I want down! Noooo!" He simply didn't want to be near Hannah.
We did get an OK family picture under protest. Or should I say...under BRIBE by Grandma Noble!
David is only slightly interested in Hannah. He doesn't get too close, but is definitely concerned when she cries. If she cries, he runs to check on her. He never knows what to do or say, so he just looks at us with the most concerned look on his face! We do keep explaining that she will cry when she want milk, when she wants mommy, or when she wants to be held.
My babies have always loved their daddy's voice! Just like David, when Hannah hears Andrew's voice, her eyes pop open. It is the cutest thing. Andrew is such a good daddy!

Finally, before bed, David made one last attempt to share his garlic bread with his baby sister. She wasn't the least bit interested, but we mark this down as another step in the RIGHT direction!

Cookies!

Hunting season is here! Oh, how I despise hunting season. I tell Andrew all the time that hunting is just one of those sports men do to get away from their wives! Not that I think that is the reason he does it...I just hate him being gone all day on Saturdays - my only day off work to play. I don't know how women who are married to avid hunters who go for weeks at a time do it. What I do enjoy though, is spending quality time with my DAVID! He keeps me busy and on my toes, but we have lots of fun. Today we made Halloween sugar cookies. It was messy, but do you think I expected anything less? Nope! David learned to "roll it". He's always wondered what this roller was used for. He often carries it around the house trying to figure out what he can do with it.

The "haunted house" cookie cutter was his favorite. He would put it in the dough and "shake it".

I couldn't be fast enough to take away the first cut out before it was ruined by the next cookie cutter.
He didn't have that great of leverage on the counter, so he got down and used his chair. This time he didn't remember that we needed to roll out the dough. He just cut through the pile of dough.
Then he'd switch cookie cutters and cut through the same pile of dough.

Andrew did surprise us and come home for a lunch break. While he was home, he joined us in our Halloween cookie baking. He made the frosting! We let David lick the beater! This was his first time doing so.
Now that he has licked the beater once, I am sure he'll want to lick it every time. No matter what's on the beater!
We never said we were expert cookie bakers or decorators! We just had lots of fun making cookies!
The final product: YUMMY! After 4 or 5 cookies, I am all cookied out!
For those who are wondering, today was the last day of the deer hunting season here and NO Andrew didn't bring home a buck, nor did he ever see one! In the past he's always bought an elk tag as well, but this year he decided the elk hunt is too close to "baby sisters" due date! So, Andrew is DONE hunting for this year.
