Saturday at Bear Lake

We have made it! Bear Lake 2011! The trip to Bear Lake was unlike any other in the past 5 or 6 years. We traveled through a big snow storm that dumped nearly 18-24 inches of snow in Bear Lake. We drove our car this year so that my sister could come home early for school after spending the weekend with us. The last 30 miles of our trip there, we followed a snow plow. We were so grateful that we came upon one because we he turned off at the Idaho/Utah border, our car was plowing snow for the last 10 miles. There was so much more snow there this year during our week than any other year we have been there. Andrew had to clear a walk way to the door with a laundry basket, just so we could all get in and begin unloading!

Our Saturday in Bear Lake has always been a "we can do whatever" day, meaning that we used to go skiing and snowboarding at Beaver Mountain on Saturdays until others decided snowmobiling for a half day would be more fun. This year we chose to take the snowmobiles out for a test run as well as give Deanna and the kids a chance to play and ride with us. While everyone took turns on the snowmobiles, Grandma, David, Hannah, and myself all played on the snow bank. We didn't even think about taking a sled for David this year, so we made our own sled out of a black plastic bag. He didn't even know the difference. Hannah on the other hand, was NOT a fan of sledding down the hill. We were only out there for a few hours, but came back with only 2 working sleds of the 3 we took out. While Deanna was riding, the trailing arm that my dad had just had fixed, broke again on the purple sled. She felt so bad, feeling like it was her fault. If we weren't on the trail and only riding 10 MPH, side by side, I would have thought she did something to it, but clearly it must have just been a bad part or a poor repair job.

David sledding backwards down the hill!
Covered in snow and a bit cold...now he was ready to go!

Hannah was happy just to sit and watch.

Sledding just wasn't as much fun for her as it was for David.

Andrew always takes David for a ride. This year, he had to cut his ride short because David fell asleep and became a big bobble head sitting in front of Andrew.

When 4 people ride out together and only 3 snowmobiles go out, one MAN gets left out.
....and he wonders why his back, shoulders, head, and feet ache at the end of the day! IF only he would only trail ride like me, he might not be in so much pain at the end of the day!

This was Hannah's second year in Bear Lake, but her FIRST time EVER on a snowmobile and she loved it.

Hannah really is a Daddy's girl!

Even her first time in snow clothes wasn't a big a deal at all.

Probably because she thinks that whatever is good enough for David, is good enough for her. She does a lot of stuff JUST because David does it.

This year was also the first year that Grandma came up for the Saturday play day. David had so much fun playing with Grandma in the snow. He knows that she will take such good care of him to ensure that he stays safe and warm...which is probably mommy's job, but mommy was sitting with Hannah in the car while she took a short, but much needed, nap!

As long as David is a part of the action, he is happy.

Ready, Set, GO!
